Chargeback Dispute Timeline
Last updated: October 7, 2026
When cardholders can dispute: Cardholders can generally dispute a card transaction for up to 120 days after it's processed, depending on the card network and dispute reason. Some dispute types, such as goods or services not received, can be filed later, in some cases well beyond 120 days.
Notification delay: After a cardholder disputes a transaction with their issuing bank, there is typically a delay before Astra is notified. This is often around a week but varies by issuer and network. Expect a gap between when the cardholder files the dispute and when you receive the chargeback_created webhook.
Resolution timeline: Once a chargeback is opened, uncontested cases often resolve within 30-45 days. Contested chargebacks that go through additional review cycles (pre-arbitration or arbitration) can take several months to fully resolve.
In summary: A chargeback can be filed anytime from immediately after a transfer up to ~120 days later (longer for certain dispute types), and you'll typically be notified within about a week of the cardholder filing.
